Also in the early days of computers, each brand of computer had its own specific operating system and there was no compatibility between them at all. The first 'real' PC was released in 1977, but it was not until 1981 that 'Big Blue', IBM recognised the fact that they were going to be important and they rushed to get a computer on to the market. In order to do this, they asked Mr Gates to produce an operating system for them, which he did, and called it PC-DOS. The importance of this was that other computer manufacturers realised that this could be the standard that they had been waiting for, and so Microsoft altered PC-DOS a bit and started marketing it as MS-DOS. This quickly became ubiquitous and the name was shortened to DOS. Zooo, en nu hebben jullie ook wat basis DOS kennis :p
