SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 16 (May 16, 2000 8:37:39 EST) -- McAfee.com (Nasdaq: MCAF), a leading Internet
Application Service Provider (ASP) of PC security and management services, today announced the inclusion of two
new application services and enhanced component delivery technology for the McAfee.com Clinic offering. These
enhancements are designed to provide customers with new data management tools for optimizing and protecting
their personal computers while significantly reducing application retrieval times.

"Our customers are always anxious to use new, innovative, and diverse applications that can boost productivity
while helping to ensure protection of their digital assets," said Patti Dock, vice president of marketing, McAfee.com.
"This week we've enhanced our offering by significantly speeding the download time of critical protection files, as
well as providing customers with new application services that enable "one click" deletion of files to virtually ensure
permanent removal from their systems."

The FileWipe and Hardware Upgrade Analyst applications offer new file management services to McAfee.com's
Clinic, which already provides over a dozen online anti-virus, system performance, and system upgrade
applications.

-- FileWipe -- This new application provides Clinic subscribers with the

ability to delete files securely and permanently. While normally

deleted files are easily recovered, the FileWipe technology

automatically "wipes" them up to 25 times, virtually ensuring

protection against recovery. Basic "delete" commands simply tell the

computer that it can write on top of existing information on the hard

drive, but doesn't guarantee that the information is irretrievable.

FileWipe helps to solve that problem, virtually ensuring that giving

away a computer doesn't mean giving away the equivalent of a diary, a

wallet, or personal files.

-- Hardware Upgrade Analyst -- The Hardware Upgrade Analyst provides

Clinic subscribers with a simple means to compare their existing

hardware components with recommended components, based on the PC's

primary use. Hardware Upgrade Analyst will perform an online analysis

of a machine and compare what it finds with an "ideal" system. The

Analyst scans the customer's computer and suggests various memory,

input/output devices, storage, and other hardware based on the user's

self-classification in one of six categories including "bargain hunter"

and "road warrior." This new service allows for increased and

customized optimization for each individual PC.

In addition to these new applications, Clinic subscribers now benefit from McAfee.com's enhanced compression
technology. This improved technology provides up to 45% more compression of files that are downloaded via the
Internet by subscribers. This translates into faster download times for Clinic applications ActiveShield and Scan
Now. McAfee.com recommends that these files be downloaded on a weekly basis to ensure the latest in PC
protection.

These additions and enhancements further strengthen McAfee.com's leadership position in the ASP industry.
According to research from the GartnerGroup unit Dataquest, this industry is expected to leap from $889 million in
1998 to $22.7 billion in 2003.
